1. Copper – The Electrical Backbone

• Over 60% of all copper produced globally is used in electrical applications (wiring, motors, electronics).
• India is the 2nd largest consumer of copper in Asia, after China.
• Green energy growth, especially electric vehicles and solar panels, is expected to double copper demand by 2035.

2. Aluminum – The Lightweight Leader

• Aluminum is 100% recyclable without any loss in properties.
• The automotive industry prefers aluminum over steel due to its lightweight and fuel-efficiency benefits.
• India’s aluminum production is led by companies like NALCO, Vedanta, and Hindalco.

3. Zinc – Silent Corrosion Fighter

• Over 50% of global zinc is used for galvanizing steel to prevent rust.
• Zinc oxide is also used in medicines, cosmetics, and paints.
• Zinc demand increases with infrastructure projects due to its protective role in steel structures.

4. Lead – Still Dominated by Batteries

• Around 85% of all lead goes into lead-acid batteries used in vehicles, inverters, and UPS systems.
• Despite growth in lithium-ion batteries, lead-acid is still dominant in India due to cost-effectiveness.
• India is both a major consumer and recycler of lead scrap.

5. Stainless Steel (SS) – The Anti-Corrosion Star

• SS 304 and SS 316 are the most used grades in food, pharma, and marine industries due to corrosion resistance.
• Stainless steel production in India crossed 4 million metric tons in 2024, led by Jindal Stainless and Aperam.
• Stainless steel is now being widely used in metro rail infrastructure and modern construction.

• Scrap metal prices are closely linked to global LME (London Metal Exchange) and energy costs.
• In 2025, the nickel price surge is due to battery-grade demand from EV manufacturers.
• MS Ingot and billet prices vary weekly, especially with rising coal prices in Bellary and Mandi
